Less than 24 hours after being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, President Barack Obama addressed a large gathering of gay activists at a fundraiser for the Human Rights Campaign held in Washington D.C. and spoke briefly on the issue of gay rights.
President Obama, with the assistance of the overhead crane operator who holds his swollen head upright, first addressed the issue of Don't ask, Don't tell and promised those in attendance "Don't worry, Be Happy, because soon I will set you free. No one wants you to go to war and fight and even die, more than I and eventually, someday, I will make sure that you can do just that without having to hide your queerness. I have no timetable for accomplishing this feat, but I don't work well when there are expectations or goals. So, my best advice to those of you currently serving in our military is, just keep quiet, good things are a comin. And, if you should die in service to your country in the interim, just know this, I sort of cared!"
As those in attendance pressed for some answers on when the administration would act to overturn DOMA, as promised by President Obama during his campaign, Obama would only say this "Ask not how long you must wait to be treated like other human beings, ask what you can do for me, Obama, Mmmmm, mmmmmm, mmmmm! I know you want the FREEDOM to marry your partners, but as long as marriage is between one man and one woman, my hands are tied. I have directed my Attorney General, Eric Holdit, to review the constitutionality of DOMA and I asked Eric to have a full report on my Big Old Oval Office desk no later than the 12th of never. I know that seems like a long, long time, but I'll still be here even if you're not"
After the event HRC president, Joel SalmonCroquet, spoke to reporters and said, "I just love President Obama, especially his big Swollen Head. We shall overcome, Someday."
Representative Barney "bulbous" Frankfurter, who came late to the event, spoke briefly to reporters on the subject of gay rights saying, "this really doesn't concern me, I've got mine and even some of yours, so quit marching queeers because everytime you march, you make me look like an ingrate, you stupid commoners".
What's the Hopey Changey progress Obama can claim this time? He didn't call all gay people child molesters in the Justice department brief. Whoo hoo! A transformative president! A real leader! A man-god! The light bringer! His Justice dept does not think 10% of the population are perverts! Wow! I have a tingle going up my leg!
(Or is that a homo who wants to grab the goods because he is blind and thinks i am 14???)
I am SO glad the Left is waking up. (Though I will continue to yell TOLD YA SO! for a good, long while. Perhaps forever. The Obots deserve a long season in Hell for what they did last year.
Last January I came out in support of an economic stimulus. Then Obama - overwhelmed by all his new toys - punted the details to Pelosi who promptly took our alleged cash and turned it in to a pork carnival.
So I dialed back my support.
I'd like to see real health care reform. I'd like it to swing to the Left. Yet, here, all over again, is the Deja vu. Any chance for real change has buckled under the light weight of Obama's duplicity. His health care "reform" is lipstick on a corpse.
Greg Palast, who I read via NQ, rips a massive pre global warming ice berg sized hole in Obama's "reform". Not feeling the need to smash and grab quotes -so just go read Pallast. Obama is boning us hard. The drug companies and the hospitals are locked in for a long party. Thanks, Barry!
It's all so damn depressing.
Also read Craig Della Penna's piece on insurance companies profits here.
Obama and the Democrats are killing health care reform forever.
"Socialist!!!!" is on the verge of being over and missed used in 2009 as much as "racist!!!" was over and miss used in 2008. What's his name in the White House is many things but he's NOT a socialist. Socialists do not hire Goldman Sach's boys Larry Summers and Tim Geithner. Socialist do not give billions TO mega banks. They take is FROM mega banks. A socialist would never cut a deal with Big Pharma on drug prices...etc etc....
"Since Obama came into office, the drug industry has received everything it wants, domestic and foreign," contended James Love, who leads an international nonprofit promoting low-cost distribution of drugs...
Barack Hussein Obama is:
an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to stick us with a bogus bill.
Posters mocking Obama are popping up all over LA. I have yet to see one -but check it out here. This turn of events is being covered in the LA Times. The sickening "hope" posters made a Warholian product of both Obama and the concept of hope (Dish detergent? Bath soap? Diet pills? ). Who ever is doing these counter posters - I commend them.
(Even though they continue the bullshit that BHO is a "socialist". This is absurd on its face....and torso...and limbs...and digits...and groin...and...and...and...It is a very big lie to say Obama is a socialist. Any real socialists ought to take offense. A real socialist would NEVER hire Volker, Summers, and nominate Ms. Pro Business herself, Sotomayor, to name a few...I suspect the reason for this lie is that just screaming 'liberal' has lost its ability to inflame and confuse. )
Of course, we all have every right to mock the President. But what really needs mocking is that revolting "hope" poster.
John here: I want to point out that if Sarah Palin had referred to the "President" of Canada, Keith Olbermann would have had a stroke on the air screaming about it, and Arianna Huffington would have approved a post which attacked both her and Trig as "retarded"
Inspired by Dancing Possum: Music for Lunch Break today is dedicated to John Avarosis - who went on a Hillary Hating misogyny bender last year and sold his gay soul to a homophobe who last week compared his desire for equality to a that of a child molester who wants to screw his sister. Meanwhile, since Clinton became SoS - she has opened up State Department benefits to partners of gays - a month ago!!! - spoken forcefully for Gay rights as Human rights and designated June - Gay and Lesbian Pride month at the State Department.
Obama can find the time to call Colbert in Iraq as a joke but not the time to draft a bill overturning DOMA, no doubt because he is playing patty cake with Rick Warren...Avarosis and his viscous little band of Obama Pod Idiots owe us all an apology.
Fuck you, John Avarosis.
Who is sorry now? Not those of us who paid attention to who Obama really was all along...an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to stiff us with the bill...
The "free" market works just fine with health care. We have the best health care system in the world! Profit cures cancer! Blue Cross cares deeply about who lives and who dies! No need for any interference from the elected government that represents the people...move along!
...and your flag lapel pin, too! (by Tengrain at Mock, Paper, Scissors) When the whisperers and the naysayers try to appease the LGBTQ community that there is too much going on with two wars, the Great Recession, Healthcare reform, international tensions, and so forth, they need to be called on their bullshit...Right now, this very moment, the Dims have control of the White House, and the Congress, and enough of the Senate that they can make real change. By the midterm elections, they might not have it; hell they probably won't have it if history is any guide. There is literally no better time than the present to make real progress. It will not happen on its own, the only thing that is missing is the political willpower and leadership...
What they are not willing to say (or put in writing) is that LGBTQ rights are not priorities. But let's be honest for a moment: they are really saying that Human Rights are not a priority. I do not accept that, and I don’t think anyone else should either.
Obama Extends Benefits To Gay Federal Employees (by The Cajun Boy at Gawker) The AP reported Tuesday that the Obama administration plans to announce Wednesday that they're extending the same benefits available to spouses of straight employees to the spouses of gay and lesbian federal employees...Interestingly, the move comes the day after two prominent gay men, activist David Mixner and blogger Andy Towle, announced that they would boycott an upcoming DNC fundraiser out of concern that the Obama White House was supporting policies detrimental to the gay rights cause. Coincidence? And where did the idea come from? From Hillary, of course.-Caro
Obama OKs Some Benefits for Gay Federal Workers' Partners (Truthdig) It would take new legislation to extend full health coverage to the same-sex partners of federal employees, but President Obama, via presidential memorandum, will grant some benefits to them. The administration is already on thin ice with gay activists, some of whom are angry about a Justice Department brief defending the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, the very law that prevents the government from recognizing the rights of gay couples.
Daniel Politi is not impressed: Obama Throws Gays a Crumb (by Daniel Politi, Slate) Due to this increasing disappointment in Obama's administration, gay rights supporters couldn't muster much enthusiasm for the news. An adviser to the Clinton administration on gay issues tells the NYT that "more important now is what he says tomorrow about the future for gay people during his presidency."
Reid Clarifies His Position On DADT: 'We Would Welcome A Legislative Proposal From The White House' (Think Progress) During a press conference Monday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) attracted attention when a reporter asked him whether the Senate will be pushing for a bill to repeal "Don’t Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT): "...'My hope is that it can be done administratively.'" The Obama administration has repeatedly resisted calls to suspend DADT by executive order. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs last month said that President Obama is looking for a 'durable legislative solution," and Obama himself has written that repeal of the policy "needs Congressional action." Many LGBT bloggers immediately criticized Reid's comments, saying that Obama and Congress were "playing hot potato over DADT."
Tuesday in a statement to ThinkProgress, Reid's office clarified the senator’s remarks, saying that what he is looking for is a "legislative proposal" from the White House. Additionally, while the Senate does not currently have a bill introduced, "a number" of senators are working on one.

The disgust I feel over the Time Obama Pod piece is palpable tonight. Everything we thought was true - was true. Damon's piece at Corrente breaking down the meaning of what happened, and is happening, inside the Obama cult sums it up perfectly. Read it.
this kind of writing goes something beyond hero worship towards a road we don't wish to travel down. It feels like pure and utter mind-fucking, insulting, debasing, and disempowering.
Chicago Slim's use of a behavioural "dream team" to manipulate voters is creepy enough. What is worse - much worse - is the subtext of the Time piece: Obama knows best and you, the teaming masses, are stupid. Of course, this is the central experience of Clinton supporters who tried to inject counter points in to the Obama machine.
YOU ARE STUPID. YOU ARE RACIST. YOU ARE UNEDUCATED. YOU DON'T "GET" IT.
The techniques used during the campaign will continue for as long as they are seen to be working.
They are effective - to a point. Most people do join "the tribe's" endeavors, whatever they may be. At a certain point people watch American Idol because other people watch American Idol.
To counter this is the remarkable number of people who simply never "got" Obama. I am one.
To illustrate: On 3 counts I find the coverage of Chicago Slim suspect.
1. He did not "win" the Democratic nomination. He took it. Clinton received more votes and sans the Florida/Michigan DNC coup and the footlicking Obamamedia, she would have won. A majority of Democrats preferred Clinton. That is fact.
2. In an economic tornado last November Obama only mustered just over half the voters. 47% of us voted for someone else. This is utterly unimpressive when 8 years of Bush and rampant economic fear is taken into account.
3. Obama's current popularity - at about 60% - is continually reported as "overwhelming". It is not. It is to be expected at this point and hardly unique. The near immediate (in political terms) rise of his disapproval ratings is more telling. GOP partisans almost uniformly disapprove and 52% of independents do now as well. He is hovering at 60% by virtue of overwhelming Democratic support. It takes much longer for the most committed to own and admit to buyer's remorse. None of this equates to "overwhelming" popularity. It equates to 60% of the population thinking he's a "good guy". Fewer like what he's doing.
What interests me is the substantial number who never bit the Obama apple. The behavioral dream team failed on this count - in both the nominating process and the General. Even with his "white papers" on group behavior he still needed caucus packing and Donna Brazille to shove him over the top. It is not a leap to say if you haven't ingested the kool aid yet, you probably never will.
Good for you. Keep it up. Everyday those of us who opposed this man are being proven correct.
