    My Anniversary

On June 5th 2008 I went to the post office and changed my party registration from Democratic to "Decline to State" ("Independent" in California).

    Why?

Nell's comment last night says it better than I could:

To expand on Jeannie's question #4: Why did Obama receive MI's delegates from the DNC when his name wasn't on the ballot in that state?

It's actually far worse than that. Not only was Obama awarded all of the "uncommitted" delegates in Michigan, the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the DNC thoroughly subverted democracy on that infamous day [May 31, 2008] when they transferred four of Hillary Clinton's earned delegates to Barack Obama based on nothing more than speculation on the outcome of the MI primary had Obama's name been on the ballot. On that day the Democratic Party officially abandoned the principle of "one person one vote" and became a banana
    republic.

Watching the DNC rules committee glibly destroy its own stated values made it impossible for me to remain a Democrat. The fact that they handed four earned Clinton delegates to a person who was not on the ballot made my decision easy. The DNC remains a shameful bunch of base, vulgar criminals.

I've been happier ever since last June 5th.

I keep reading this thinking.... what? what? what?

Scott found this earlier in the week - and it keeps bothering me - am i missing something?

This is rule Rule 11.A. of the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2008 Democratic National Convention:
    A. No meetings, caucuses, conventions or primaries which constitute the first determining stage in the presidential nomination process (The date of the primary in primary states, and the date of the first tier caucus in caucus states ) may be held prior to the first Tuesday in February or after the second Tuesday in June in the calendar year of the national convention. Provided, however, that the Iowa precinct caucuses may be held no earlier than 22 days before the first Tuesday in February; that the Nevada first-tier caucuses may be held no earlier than 17 days before the first Tuesday in February; that the New Hampshire primary may be held no earlier than 14 days before the first Tuesday in February; and that the South Carolina primary may be held no earlier than 7 days before the first Tuesday in February. In no instance may a state which scheduled delegate selection procedures on or between the first Tuesday in February and the second Tuesday in June 1984 move out of compliance with the provisions of this rule.

Now - is this correct? Is this what the rules state? If so Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina violated the rules.

    Does anyone have further input?
