David Letterman has always been one of my favorite celebs. I left the Tonight Show off my nightly rounds after they chose Leno years ago - and never looked back. (Larry "bud" Melman is still one of my favorite shticks.) Letterman's humor almost always nailed it for me. Unlike Leno, Letterman not only tells jokes - he IS funny.

So yesterday's clip of his crack about Palin's daughter disheartened me. At first because Palin jokes are just cheap and easy at this point. She's a public figure - she gets what she gets. We ought to BLOWBACK when they go too far - as they often do when TV jokers crack about Sarah Palin. Still, it is a tough business and it seems she knows it.

But the joke was too much for the obvious reasons. It was tasteless - of course. That does not bother me so much. I love South Park after all. I heard it as a slam against Palin, her eldest daughter and A Rod - at first. Hot Air makes the point that since she took her 14 year old daughter, Willow, to the Yankees game - Letterman was, in fact, making a joke at about the rape of a minor. I missed this - though it is obvious.

Massbackwards:
I have to think that if Barack Obama had taken his daughters to a Washington Wizards game, and a conservative television personality made a joke about one of them getting raped and impregnated at halftime by Antawn Jamison, that person might be in the middle of a major shitstorm right about now.

That point can't be argued. We've seen it happen a thousand times. One of the most poisonous aspects of the Obama phenomenon has been the complete disregard of liberals for their own stated values. I assume Letterman leans left - though I have no idea. So finally his bad joke concerns me less than the liberal reaction to it. Letterman puts on a show 5 nights a week. Off base jokes are bound to happen under that pressure. As Ralph Richardson allegedly said on his death bed when asked if dying was difficult: Death is easy. Comedy is hard.

I am not going to get to wound up about Letterman. He should have known better. He should be taken to task for the joke. He should apologize. That is it.

Here's my problem. Liberals went off like monkeys being electrocuted in a cage when Rush L. said he "wanted Obama to fail." As if most off them had not thought and said "I want George Bush to fail." for 8 years. They did. We did. I did. At one point last year even saying Obama was arrogant was called "racist" by the false Lefties with the bullhorns. In fact, questioning Obama on anything inevitability went to "racist!" is a few short sound bites. Ferraro got reamed for telling a simple truth last spring. A black man being a viable candidate WAS a bobble many libs hung their vote on. It certainly wasn't because they knew anything about him. Most didn't.

So where is the liberal electrocuted monkey brigade after Lettermen's joke about rape?

The monkeys are MIA. It was only PALIN after all. You know - she's "white trash" so mocking is A-Okay.

Obama and what his pods have wrought is the ruination of any hope a progressive/liberal movement can survive as anything but a rump, neutered force...(Don't believe me? Where is Single Payer now that we have a "liberal" President? Gone. Flushed. Off the table. I promise you if Hillary Clinton was President Single Payer would be on the table. )

...More than that liberals have flushed their values - values fought for over decades - from abolition to suffrage to civil rights

"Common Dreams" a heretofore whiney but nevertheless sometimes good left wing site with an truly ironic name - sent out a fundraising email that includes a pic which claims "Tim McVeigh would love The Tea Party"... taken furtively at the Oklahoma City Tea Party. Screen grab posted here.
Apparently they think invoking Tim McVeigh in Oklahoma City is cute...cuz you know - those who attended Tea Parties also support this....duh.. everyone in Brentwood, at Arriana Huffington's cocktail parties, and in Rachel Maddow's green room knows this.

Funny, I just perused Common Dreams and see nothing on the Obama Justice Department's destruction of civil liberties... but hey who has time for principles?!! Obama gives me a hope hard-on and he won! That's all that matters! Whoo Hoo!

It is hard to express just how cold blooded and brain dead these "tolerant", lazy, fatuous,entitled, rich, liberals at Common Dreams are in equating a mass murderer to those exercising the right of assembly - in Oklahoma City, no less - and then using the pic to raise money!

Look down, "liberal" mallet heads- what you see slipping away beneath you is the moral high ground....forever...You have become what you once loathed.

My God, I wish some liberals would emerge that were not full of steaming shit. I'd take Hubert Humphrey at this point. Paul Wellstone... Bella Abzug.... anyone???

The Left has sprung a leak

The History Channel is on another Hitler bender so last night I rummaged around the DVR. I was rewarded for earlier compulsive recording with a show called "Engineering Disasters". One of the disasters featured was the St. Francis Dam break in 1928. The St. Francis Dam was a dam in northern LA County that was one of the final stops for water from central California. The entire system was created by William Mullholland, (who morphed into Mulwray in the film version - the brilliant Chinatown.) and it, in turn, created Los Angeles. The day before the dam broke killing over 400, Mr. Mullholland visited the dam which was clearly leaking badly. He said there was no problem and went home.
Go with me for a minute:
Today it occurred to me that one could argue that Obama's appointments so far are to the RIGHT of Bill Clinton's in 1992. The evil centrist that the Kos Kidz bashed mercilessly all year actually appointed Robert Reich - a bonefide liberal as part of his economic team. And it is easy to argue that Warren Christopher, Henry Cisnaros and Donna Shalala were to the Left of anyone Obama has picked thus far. In simplest terms: Obama has ignored the Left wing of his own party. Clinton did not. The vaunted "team of rivals" is actually just a list of Center-Right Washington and Wall Street insiders.

So far.

About that dam leak - it did not seem like much to the builder when he viewed it - then, within hours the dam broke. The Latte Liberal Obama Dam will leak but hold until about 3 weeks after he's sworn in. That's my bet.

I remember how roundly the Left trashed Bill Clinton early on. I supported Tom Harkin and Jerry Brown - both liberals - before coming to admire Clinton. The vocal Left was miserable about Clinton's nomination in 1992. So here, in 2008, we have a leaky dam of sorts holding back the cognitive dissonance of the committed Obamaton Latte Liberals. But the leaks are visible.
Criticisms of Obama's foreign policy team are if anything outstripped by indignation over his economic team.

His foreign policy team is populated by hawks and the economic team is Wall Street bred. This is not change. Many here and elsewhere have said for months that Obama will be Bush's real third term. This looks truer than ever. Obama's team will be more competent. Not hard. But the ideological differences are small. Certainly not what the most committed Pods expected. Forget about W's first term for an moment and the differences barely register with the second term. More war. More spending. A large "investment" package would be coming January 21st if McCain, W, or Mickey Mouse was President. Guantanamo would have been closed under McCain as well. (Those drunk on MSNBC continue to believe Obama will be magically ending the wars - denial on a grand scale. )

With the possible exception of Bill Richardson and Samantha Power, John McCain could have easily picked most of the same folks Obama has chosen. Even McCain picking his friend, Hillary Clinton, for something is not a big stretch of imagination. She garners grudging respect on the Right now.

Don't get me wrong, I like many of Obama's picks. General Shinseki at the V.A. is almost inspiring. And I've followed the Clintons long enough to know that Hillary will survive and thrive either by staying and serving ably at the State Department - or leaving if she needs to. Richardson goes from being useless to harmless and back in all his jobs - but he won't do any damage. Samantha Power won't win a battle with Hillary if one comes.

Obama's picks are not inspiring in the least. They are boilerplate. As for policy - expect change. It IS coming. But it won't be big change and is more the result of this historical moment than Obama. He will yank some policies back to the center - as well he should.

The only person the Obama Delusionists can pin their hopes on now - as it has always been - is Obama himself. The personality cult will plug the dam for a while. But a POTUS can only pretend to be the agent of change while administering the Washington status quo for so long.

Even the Latte Liberals are not that stupid.
