No Dough For You
The Senate voted to not raise the minimum wage yet again. Senator Kennedy had a proposal to raise it to $6.25 as did the Republicans. The Republican bill was tied to breaks and exemptions for small business'.
Dephi (our friends in Bankruptcy) want to cut their payroll from an average of $27 per hour to $10 to $12 per hour.
I could be way off base here but if you do not pay workers enough they cannot afford your goods and services thereby putting you out of business. Especially if you are U.S. Auto Maker. Sorry, but I have never seen a Dodge on the Autobahn that didn't have American plates.
What we need is a national health plan that would make American cars competitive with German, Japanese and Korean (who all have national health) and a raise in the minimum wage. Now, I still believe that Japanese cars are better quality than American but the price could draw in customers.
If you pay your workers enough that will pour money into the economy which will then enable companies to expand and grow. I have never been a trickle down kind of gal; I'm more of a wash up chick.
